Michaelchurch Court and Estate, Michaelchurch Escley

The documents in this collection were ‘rescued’ by the Baxendale family from Michaelchurch Court c. 1970, when Lindsey Baxendale’s brother Michael Hunter cleared the house of its entire contents, auctioned the furniture and effects and made a bonfire of the rest on the Court drive. They consist of what is probably a fairly random sample of the entirety of the Trafford and Hunter family papers that had been handed down prior to that time. Nevertheless, we are fortunate that this much has survived, and together they paint a fascinating historical picture of life at Michaelchurch Court stretching over more than a century.
