Description:

Photograph of a letter dated 1st July 1863 from Mr. Evans’ [Elizabeth Rawson’s lawyer] agent in Hereford who expresses reservations about the Escley Court property and explains that the ‘mansion’ is divided between Mr Kedward and Hugh Dallas the tenant of Court Farm, with Mr Barton the vendor occupying three or four rooms, and that more information can be sought from Mr H Apperley, the estate manager for Mr Barton. He also comments on the tenants of the estate that ‘…Bailiffs to Mr Barton… being Scotsmen are perhaps able to compete with the other farmers in the neighbourhood who have been bred and born on the land’.
