Beneficiaries:
To youngest son, James, eight kine, four oxen, and two bullocks, a
wayne , a plough and 3 yokes. He is also to have 2 pans and a brass pot 'of the best', £10 in cash, a flock bed and 30 sheep with half the corn and grain in the barn and half of the corn growing. Finally he is to have a red mare with a colt.
To son, Richard, £5 in the hands of Thomas ap Harry Phe Harry and 5 marks [£3 6 8d] in the hands of Harry Thomas ap John of Craswall and xls [40/-] in the hands of Roger Morgan [a total of £10 6 8d].
Also to Richard, £6 13 4d in the hands of Watkin ap Hoell Harry with 'the profits of a close of land of the said Watkin untill the said sum be satisfied and paid.' The other half of the corn and grain, 3 three year old bullocks, one bed, 2 pans and a brass pot 'of the best', 6 pewter dishes and a candlestick, a table board and a red mare with a black colt.
To the four daughters of William Pillpott [Phillpott?], 2 kine to be equally divided between them 'at the oversight of two indifferent neighbours'.
To godson, Harry ap John, a one year old bullock.
To the three other children 'in the Hay' [that is Hay on Wye] the children of John lluis, six sheep
Residual legatee, son, James.
To funeral expenses, £5.

Executor: son, James.

No indication on copy of testator's signature or mark.

Witnesses: Watkin Howell Parrie, Richard Hoell, John Jenckin and Thomas ap Richard huiius Scriptor ["wrote this" or words to that effect]


Date of Probate: 7 May 1588.

Observations:

This set of reproduced documents cover 3 pages of the second volume of Brecon wills for the 16th century. The inventory may have been cut short in this copy as there are so few domestic items and no total or appraiser signatures.
The inventory is reproduced below with modern spelling
