Title:

Notice to let Michaelchurch Court and other properties

Place name:

Michaelchurch Escley

Date:

1816

Description:

The Hereford Journal of 25th December 1816 contains an advertisement of properties to let from the following Candlemass, including ‘all that very capital messuage or dwelling house called Michaelchurch Court’, along with 326 acres of land in the parish of Michaelchurch Escley, all said to be ‘now in the possession or occupation of Mr William Acton’.

Other properties to let included the Wilderness and the Duke’s or Llandraw [Landraw] in Michaelchurch Escley, plus Gworlodd Vain, Nyadd Llwyd and Blaen Alchon in Llanveynoe, all of which had been offered for sale as part of the estate in 1815

Observations:

Michaelchurch Court and Estate along with [some of] the manor of Ewyas Lacy had been put up for auction in 1815, and is thought to have been bought by Thomas Daniell. It seems that rather than living at the Court he sought to let it and several of the farms which had formed part of the estate.

The modern day Duke’s and Landraw are separate, adjoining farms, both in the parish of Craswall.
