Title: | Digital Archive: The Memorial Bell at St Michael’s Church |
Place name: | Michaelchurch Escley |
Date: | 2018 |
Description:
In 2018 a new bell was dedicated in a service at St Michael’s Church. The bell was cast as a memorial to those local people who died in the Great War [the First World War] from 1914 to 1918. The dedication took place to mark the passing of one hundred years from the end of that conflict, and signalled the completion of a wider project to refurbish and rehang the entire peal of bells at the church.
The memorial bell is rung every armistice day in remembrance, and a poem written for the occasion is read; the photograph of the bells and the poem “A Century On” shown below is displayed at the church.
