Title:

Llanveynoe Parish, Poor Rate Books

Place name:

Llanveynoe, Clodock

Date:

1852 -1855

Description:

In the Herefordshire Record Office are five Rate Books detailing the Poor Rates collected in the parish of Llanveynoe on 10 occasions from May 1852 to January 1855. Each book details the Poor Rate collected on two consecutive occasions. Each assessment names the occupier and owner of each of the 89 rateable holdings together with the payments collected, Names of the respective Churchwardens, Overseers and approving Justices are given. Each of the ten assessments follow a standard format with line number references to property items being consistant so that any changes over the period in owners or occupiers can easily be seen. The ‘Rate’ due varies from occasion to occasion, it is mainly at 8 pence in the Pound (8d/£) but can be as low as 6d/£ and as high as 9d/£.
An eight penny rate raises £28-14s-8d.

The transcription below is that from the 20th May 1852 and is similar, subject to minor changes, to the others. The rate in this instance was 8 pence in the pound of rateable value.
