Observations regarding the war of 1277 against Prince Llewellyn of Wales as it affected the marcher lords and their fees in Ewyas Lacy and Ewyas Harold

Some of the consequences of the proclamation and legal action by Edward I to curtail “Marcher Law” rights to conduct ‘private war’, which were enjoyed by the Marcher Lords [including the Earls of Hereford and Gloucester]. The events described include a prosecution by the Prior of Llanthony of Theobald de Verdun and the subsequent confiscation of the latter’s lands in Ewyas Lacy.
