1.   Will: dated 22 February 1578 .
Requests to be buried in the parish
church of Michaelchurch Escley .
Beneficiaries;
For my 'stewd thing' [church stewardship?], 4d  
To the cathedral
church   of St Davids , 2d.
To Richard Joacline Edward ap Evan, one close or 'errable' [arable] land  called  Caye Coed in St Margarets from the 'feast of the purification of our blessed Lady the virgin'[ 2nd of February] next after the date of this until Henry D[avi]d Morgan pays Richard Jenkins £5  13  4d.
To son,John David Morgan, the testator's house with 11 acres of customary lands. He is to pay his sisters, Sibill and Isabell, £4 that is 40/- each. He is also to permit the two sisters to keep 3 kine on the customary land for the next 8 years and Sibill and Isabell are to be allowed to live in 'the lower end of of my house' with John until they marry.
To daughter, Isabell, best coverlet, a bolster,  2 sheets, a brandard, a pewter platter, one candlestick, [ next part missing - top corner of page torn off] stand, one great pail.
To daughter, Sibill, a flockbed, a coverlet, [missing] sheets, one great pot, one stand, one great cover, a great Trind, a platter, a saucer, and a salt cellar.
To daughter, Jaene, [missing] middle vat, one great platter, one great pot,  one frying pan, one sheet, one new petticoat cloth, 'my best pan', a tablecloth, one great platter, one great stand, one great cover, one middle trind, 'my best kassog [cassock?]', one sheet.
To son, John, the best vat, one little cover, one iron spit, 2 sheets, one throme cloth [?], one posnet, one colt,[ "colt" is an instrument used for threshing], a little table cloth.
The corn in the barn and in the ground 'shall go towards the finding [maintenance] of the said John Sibill and Isabell'.
Her sons Harry and John are each to contribute 10/- towards her burial.
[The bottom right hand corner of the page is damaged and missing therefore not all the lines make sense. However]
She bequeathes 9 sheep that she has hired of David ap Evan between son John and Daughters Isabell and Sibill, 'that they shall [missing] the hire and the stock for the said sheep  divided [missing] part equally'.
Son in law, Ed[ward?] Evan, 'shall occupy the one house [missing] he dwelleth in and all such grounds he occupies [missing] until the feast of the purification of our blessed [missing but must be "lady the virgin"] next'.
To son, Harry, 6 bushels of oats towards the payment of [missing] which is due to John Phe.
[The bottom of the second page is badly damaged and much is missing and unreadable.]
To Harry Thomas, a bushel of oats to Jaine Tho[tear and lost part of line] of oats and Thomas David's wife, a bushel [missing].
'And of this my last will and testament [missing words] ordain Morgan Thomas Taylor and John [missing section of the line] son

Executors; [unclear because of the damage but seem to be] Morgan Thomas Taylor and son John.

Witnesses at the sealing and delivering hereof: Thomas Price clerk, Thomas Price Thomas, Edward ap Evan, Rees David Bromwich, Margery and Gwellian William, David P rice.

2. Inventory   no date; not valued but comes to £3  18  1d. No appraiser listed.

 

 

Observations:

The hand writing is quite difficult to decipher and one or two items in the inventory could not be clearly read.
The Inventory is reproduced below with modern spelling.
