Bounden: John Lewis, labourer of Clodock and Phillip Price, gent, of Abergavenny In the sum of £20.
Observations:
No inventory. The accompanying documents tell a story of an indenture dated 1812 by which William Lewis miller of Llanveynoe made over to Ann Lewis for the sum of £25 a messuage and lands, formerly lived in by William Lewis and by William Gilbert, for 500 years; the rent to be a peppercorn. Indenture offers a buyback clause with interest at 5%
Documents also include a copy of the indenture, and a copy of the register of the death of Ann Lewis, she apparently died at the roadside aged 85 and a pauper in 1839 [both indenture and register copy are on the same sheet] a separate admon, printed letter from the Bishop's court to the administrator John Lewis and a coversheet written on a tax form [both sides]; 7 sheets in all.
