Lease of Tithes between John Arnold Esq. and John Watkins

Description:

Between John Arnold Esq. of Llanfihangell Crucorney and John Watkins the elder of Michaelchurch Escley yeoman.

 

Witnesseth that the said John Arnold in consideration of the surrender of a former lease dated 17th Sept 1 Charles 1 [1625] between Nicholas Arnold of Llantony [Llanthony] Esq of the one part and John William Prichard of Clodock …….late deceased uncle of the said John Watkins and Harry Watkins of Clodock, father of John Watkins of the other part and for and in consideration of the sum of £25 for and in the name of a fine paid to the said John Arnold by John Watkins and for and in consideration of the rents and lands herein after reserved:

 

Hath demised granted and to farme lett to the said John Watkins

 

All that part and portion of Tythe of corne and grayne called and known by the name of the Tytheing barne of Neather Escley or Skibor y Llann or by either of those two several names together with all and all manner of Tythes of corne and grayne coming growing or arising happening or remaining within the said part or portion of tythes and tythable parts thereof called the tytheing Barne of Neather Escley or Skibor y Llann or by either of those names with all and all manner of profits comodities and advantages thereunto belonging.

 

All the said premises are situate in the parish of Michaelchurch Escley now in the tenure of the said John Watkins and were sometimes …..of the possessions of the dissolved Abey or priory of Llantony in Wales called and known by the name of Lantoma prima.

 

To have and to farme hold the said part and portion of Tythes of corne and graine growing arising comeing and happening in the tythable places before mentioned unto the said John Watkins from and after the date of these presents for term of fourscore and nineteen years (if the said John Watkins the elder and John Watkins the younger son and heir apparent of the said John Watkins the elder shall so long live)

 

Yielding and paying during the said term unto John Arnold the yearly rent of £6 6s 8d and also yielding and paying to John Arnold one couple of good and sufficient capons yearly during the term.
