Title:

Two notes: by Robb. Higgins to William Bridges and by Thomas Price, relating to Griglands

Place name:

Michaelchurch Escley

Date:

1656-7

Description:

The first item is a note dated 15th April 1657 from Robb. Higgins to his “very much honoured friend” William Bridges Esq. He refers to land that Mr Bridges holds from his aunt Mrs Margery Parry deceased, and advises that the rent is payable to his father Mr Valentine Parry.

The second is a note by Thomas Price of Michaelchurch Escley. It state that he agrees to pay to Mr Bridges of Tibberton the sum of £5 4s yearly for the house and lands late of Tho: and Ja: Garrells [believed to be Thomas and Jane Quarrell] and keeping and guiding Mr Bridges sheep on the mountain. Also to allow Ja: [James] Quarrell to hold the little house paying 6s 2d yearly to Mr Bridges. Thomas Price to also pay two capons at Christmas 1656.

Observations:

In her will of 1655, Margery Parry spinster, left a messuage called Grigsloyne in Michaelchurch where Thomas Quarrell lived, to her brother Valentine Parry. It is believed this is a reference to Griglands in Michaelchurch Escley.

See also tg_mic_0071 for further detail of the letting in the second note, where the property is identified as Grygloyn.
