Title:

Restoration of the waterwheel at Michaelchurch Mill

Place name:

Michaelchurch Escley

Date:

2001

Description:

This photograph shows the overshot waterwheel stripped of its backing plates and buckets, with the two rim assemblies ready for cleaning and restoration. The penstock can be seen top centre. The upright and horizontal wooden beams at the rear of the wheel form a crude friction brake; releasing a wedge allows the horizontal timber to drop onto the wheel rim to prevent it turning.

Observations:

None
