Observations:

Acreages of land holdings are only occasionally quoted in this survey, but where they are shown it appears that the rents due per acre may be unchanged from those quoted in the Survey of 1566 for the Earl of Leicester; that is, 1d per Welsh acre for free [freehold] land, and 3d per Welsh acre for ‘free bound’ and customary land. Based on this presumption, estimated acreages are shown in square brackets for the purpose of comparison to earlier and later surveys to see if the history of specific individual holdings can be traced. Leasehold land rents seem to be higher and much more variable, presumably reflecting the Lord of the Manor’s attempts to break away from ancient customs and generate more revenue.

[†] This entry states that ‘every such Welsh acre by the custom of the said Mannor doth contain three estimate English acres.’
