Digital Archive: Newspaper cutting – Serious charges against a Baptist minister
Image of newspaper cutting dated 21 August 1886 reporting a case at Abergavenny Petty Sessions against John Howells, a Baptist minister living at Olchon near Longtown and formerly in charge of the Longtown Baptist Church. The charges included feloniously altering a receipt for rent, and perjury in connection with an earlier case involving his landlord, James Lewis of Pool House Newton. Witnesses included John Henry Harris, land agent of Longtown and James Price, rate collector of Longtown. The Bench did not consider the evidence was sufficient and the prisoner was discharged.
