Title:

Newspaper cutting: How the vicar of Clodock obtained the VC

Place name:

Clodock

Date:

1919

Description:

The newspaper article below relates how ‘a Herefordshire vicar’ received the ‘VC’ upon being instituted as Vicar of Clodock in 1916. The new vicar was Frederick George Llewellin who enjoyed the pun in reflecting that ‘you expect a VC to have pluck’ in the formidable task, as he saw it, of restoring the church and revitalising a neglected rural parish.

The Reverend Llewellin’s initiatives made two enduring contributions to both the church and parish. By the end of 1919 he had undertaken a major restoration of the church and published a book on the history of Clodock which covers many facets of local history and remains a significant resource for local historians.
