Title:

Digital Images Collection: Michaelchurch Court Photographs

Date:

c.1870-1970

This collection of photographs of Michaelchurch Court, its occupants and the Estate covers about a hundred years from the late 1800s through to 1970. Some of the earliest pictures were copied from 3” and 4” glass slides found at Michaelchurch Court in the 1960’s. Other more recent pictures have been copied from family albums put together by various members of the Trafford and Hunter families who lived at Michaelchurch Court over the years. Most of the images are taken from originals held by the Baxendale family, and are included here with their kind permission. Those of the war years have very kindly been contributed by the family of Leading Aircraftman Fraser Wood who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force detachment at Michaelchurch in 1944-45.

Photographs are accompanied by a brief commentary on the historical context and captions giving any known details of the subject[s], dates and locations, but in the case of older surviving photographs many of these details are sparse or speculative. A link to wider references to Michaelchurch Court in our documents database is also included here for convenience.
